OUR STORY
The beginning
Barbary Wool was born from two worlds: the centuries-old craftsmanship of the Amazigh community and Amsterdam’s refined design vision. Our founders have their roots in the Amazigh region and grew up in the Netherlands. This is how a brand emerged in which cultural heritage and modern design come together.Our rugs are handwoven in Morocco’s Atlas Mountains by Amazigh artisans, who pass down this centuries-old craft from generation to generation. For years, we worked from Morocco for clients around the world. When demand for custom-made Berber rugs grew, we founded Barbary Wool in Amsterdam in 2023.We are not an intermediary. We manage the entire process ourselves: from the initial design and selection of the wool to the weaving, washing and finishing in our own weaving studio.

The mission
At Barbary Wool, we strive to breathe new life into Berber rug-making by blending traditional techniques with modern design sensibilities. Our first and main collection, WOOL, celebrates the raw beauty and simplicity of this luxurious material through timeless, classic designs. But we don’t stop there. With every new collection, we push artistic boundaries, finding inspiration in landscapes, culture, and stories in and outside of Morocco. Each rug we create becomes a piece of living art, reflecting the experiences and memories of those who have walked through our vibrant world.
