The beginning
Barbary Wool began with a simple yet powerful idea: to reimagine the role of modern art and design within the rich heritage of Moroccan Amazigh (commonly known as "Berber") culture—the very roots of the two founders of the company. Fuelled by a deep passion for interior, design, and preserving indigenous crafts, Barbary Wool was born to revive the timeless beauty of artisanal rugs, made from one of the most natural and sustainable materials: wool. Our rugs aren’t just products; they’re an homage to a tradition passed down through generations, made entirely by hand using only the finest wool from the Atlas Mountain sheep.
"Berber rugs are so much more than a functional piece: they are a visual carrier of stories and experiences."
The mission
At Barbary Wool, we strive to breathe new life into Berber rug-making by blending traditional techniques with modern design sensibilities. Our first and main collection, WOOL, celebrates the raw beauty and simplicity of this luxurious material through timeless, classic designs. But we don’t stop there. With every new collection, we push artistic boundaries, finding inspiration in landscapes, culture, and stories in and outside of Morocco. Each rug we create becomes a piece of living art, reflecting the experiences and memories of those who have walked through our vibrant world.
The vision
We envision a world where heritage and innovation coexist, where the beauty of indigenous craftsmanship finds a place in contemporary spaces around the globe. Our mission is to harmonise the traditional artistry of Berber weaving with modern design, offering rugs that are as functional as they are beautiful. From the soft touch of wool to the intricate patterns and thoughtful designs, every detail is crafted to transform your space into something extraordinary. In our World of Wool, the past, present, and future of Moroccan indigenous culture are woven together—one rug at a time.
